After gaining his first teaching qualification, Charles began his career in Paris as in-house language instructor at Banque Rothschild and SCOR, one of Europe’s largest reinsurers. After 10 years there, he moved on to Saudi Arabia where he worked for British Aerospace both teaching and upgrading and developing teaching materials to be used by the R.S.A.F. His next stop was Tokyo where he ran a niche language and cross-cultural training centre, specialising in creating Business English courses for leading Japanese corporations such as Kobe Steel, and international financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Barclays. This was a particularly rewarding time, when he had the opportunity to develop an insight into working not only within a totally different national culture but also the hothouse atmosphere of the international equity and bond markets. Tiring of Japan, he took his family to Guatemala where they spent 4 months learning Spanish before coming to Barcelona where he taught for ESADE. He had discovered the city in 1979, and thought its combination of weather, wine, sea, mountains, classical music and football would be the perfect place to live. And it hasn´t disappointed him!
