Online language courses in virtual classroom
NELC is committed to offering online language training to the same high standards as its face-to-face training.
NELC has the technology to deliver classes face-to-face online. By integrating the platform BBB (BigBlueButton) into our Moodle, classes take place in a virtual classroom in real time, with students and teacher connecting from their individual locations.
Here are some of the many ways that the virtual classroom replicates the experience of the physical classroom:
The teacher and students can see, hear and speak to each other in real time.
The teacher has a large screen to project documents (e.g. Powerpoints) and videos during class.
The shared notes function provides a whiteboard for the teacher to write vocabulary and corrections. These notes can be saved and shared at the end of the class. Shared notes can also be used by students to create joint documents or to display the conclusions reached in a group discussion.
The chat function allows students to write and publish instant responses to instructions from the teacher in class.
Using the break out room function, the group of students can be divided into pairs or small groups to participate in speaking tasks, complete grammar or reading tasks, or to create a joint text. The teacher can visit each of the groups to listen, help and provide corrections.
