Gareth has been teaching English as a Foreign Language for almost 20 years now, primarily in-company Business English, although his initial experience of teaching adults was teaching 19th-century philosophy to undergraduate students whilst completing his philosophy PhD in the UK, followed by a stint teaching 20th-century philosophical aesthetics at the University of London in 2000. He moved to Barcelona just after getting married in 2002, and after working for two years as a courses coordinator for Comunicando Idiomas, obtained his TESOL certificate in July 2005 and went freelance in September. Since then he has worked through various language centres, most recently NELC, as well as with a number of direct clients. His hobbies include searching out strange, musical sounds, swimming and cosmic philosophy (although he does not usually do all at the same time), and if he could describe himself in three words as a teacher, it would be: dynamic, enabling, and humorous.
